One Group Mind (OGM) was originally formed in an improvisation environment that lacked team consistency, a defined process of instruction, and a quality, long-term development experience.
By focusing on giving teams predictable performance schedules and consistent casts with experienced coaches, OGM proved that individual talent was not a prerequisite of group success. Our philosophy is through team and time, and under experienced guidance, do performers and performances get better.
Based on our early success, we have outlined OGM's mission:
- To reduce the barriers to learning improvisation at all levels
- To provide more consistent, long term training in the art of improvisation
- To provide a cast with very little turn-over and a dedicated, independent coach
- To define, and record, the specific process required for long term improvisation education
- To bring respectability to the craft as a finished art form and a legitimate profession.
- To provide a seamless transition from training at the collegiate level to performing on the professional level to paid positions with benefits on our Specialized Comedy Companies.
- To introduce the Expansion Tree, One Group Mind's signature vehicle for training, as the basis for all long form improvisation
- To attract more qualified, committed talent that will pursue the art of improvisation as a full-time profession through the use of financial incentives common in other industries
- To fight for Improviser rights, including minimum wage and accident coverage during performances
